Hello, friend of San Pedro

The San Pedro Polyclinic is at risk of being shut down due to severe roof problems and needs your help to fund it's repairs.  The Polyclinic is the only public clinic on the island of Ambergris Caye and is where most locals go for their health care.  It's also the only place where children can go to get their vaccinations.

We need your help to raise the needed $16k USD to fix the roof.  Without the repairs, the building will be overcome with mold and the integrity of the structure could become further compromised.

The roof has undergone a full inspection by a qualified engineer and his report has been read by our membership team.  We believe that his suggested repairs make sense and the money they are asking for will be spent as it should be.  There are many more repairs necessary to the structure of the clinic but the roof repair is of utmost urgency.

$16,000 is a lot of money but not completely outside of our reach.  Please pass this on to anyone you know who cares for the community and residents of San Pedro as much as you and I do.  We will need their help to reach our goal.

For more details and to help donate to the cause, please visit the link below.

How about the BTB fixes the PolyClinic?  There are some hotels on the island that regularly send close to $16000 USD a MONTH to those crooks.

$50 says donations from charities funded part of the Poly Clinic in the first place. Wink

Mike, On 9/3/10 "San Pedro Poly Clinic needs help" It was the 2nd or 3rd post and it was from "fosp"  It was deleted??  Maybe there was a reason but it has bothered me thinking about it.  I know it was there because it had fosp web site in the message which I responded to.

Strange  Huh  Maybe I'm too naive.   Wink

There was a post linking to the donation page and the news page on the FOSP site.  It appears that someone doesn't like charities.

Has anyone heard if there are others organizing efforts to save their clinic? i.e. local groups, local hoteliers or resorts, local business community, etc. If so, the groups making an effort to collect the funds need to coordinate their collections efforts so they know when they have reached the goal of $16k. FOSP is posting their fund balance, how about anone else?

I hope there are efforts being made locally. It seems it is a plus to be able to advertise having a local clinic for tourism. I realize that business is down and everyone is hurting but they need to save their clinic for the future.

(Of course, if the tourism board doesn't do something about airfare prices they are going to loose even more business.)

Latest update - September 17th, 2010:

The San Pedro Business Association has received cash donation/pledges in the amount of $5,800 Bz

With Kelly and Mukul Kanabar's offer to match the donations that brings us up to $11,600 raised, plus the $8,000 from the ministry of health for a total raised so far in the amount of $19,600 BZ.  We are basically half way there!

If everybody that has the ability to make a small donation, say $50 - 200 Bz each we will be able to reach the goal quickly.

Donations can be made by writing a cheque to SPBA and dropping it off at my office at Sunrise Realty in San Pedro Town.  We can also receive cash and will supply a receipt.  For those who would like to make a deposit from their account to the San Pedro Business Association account - the account info is Belize Bank acct # 670-1-1-27464.  Please send an email to confirm if you make a deposit: <info@sanpedrobusiness.com>

Thanks to everybody who has donated, everybody who is passing the word along and everybody that cares that we keep the doors to the clinic open.

Yours truly
Amanda Syme, SPBA

Does anyone know if they are including the $2250 BZD FOSP has already collected in that number?
