I recently saw this article on FOX news. Being someone that has an interest in these things I looked at the rum runner recipe, made one, drank an ounce or two and dumped the rest down the sink. http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2010/08/06/tiki-time/The best rum runner I've ever drank, by far, was made by Rick Munnings who used to work at Crazy Canucks Beach Bar. His tasted great! Here's his recipe: white rum 1oz. dark rum 1oz. cocunut rum 1oz. rasberry liquour .5oz. (blackberry brandy or schnapps works too) banana liquour .5oz. OJ (2/3) Pinapple Juice (1/3) Splash grenadine DELICIOUS!

Not familiar with rum runners. Is it different than Rum Punch?

151 is highly flammable too! @DS- Rum punch is basically white rum and juice. I've even seen it made with parts of orange juice and hawaiian punch. The other difference is some can consume large quantities of rum punch. Even the best practiced elbow benders wouldn't more than 2-3 of the rum runners

Mike, In Bermuda they have Goslings Black Seal 151 proof. One time I sailed there and a friend ask me to get him a half dozen bottles. I did and unfortunately for him his wife died during my trip. I could never connect back up with him so I ended up with the rum. Anyway, I like rum but it took about ten years to use up those 6 bottles. Man is that stuff strong, no matter how you try to pour just a little in the glass and add a mixer. They also sold straight alcohol but I can't imagine how you could drink that. I heard they put in in a water melon or something. Sounds like it would only be good for a bomb. Also, in the Caribbean when I was sailing/living there we use to buy Hawaiian punch in the super markets all the time to mix with rum. Especially in St. Thomas. It was much cheaper and easier to transport on a boat than soda. Right now I'm ending my work day and there is a glass with a generous portion of Mount Gay Rum and ginger ale which is the way I prefer to drink it sitting in front of me.

Note to self: Do not go sailing with ragman! We used to light 151 off on the bar....when we were ready to leave of course! The best part about rum is that you can drink it with about anything. We used to buy frozen drink mixes, like mango orange in the can......and crushed ice and a generous dose of rum and turn on the blender.............works fine!! Never tried it with ginger ale...............but there's always a first time

Bob, One Barrel and ginger, that's what I'd be drinking if I was sitting on a stool at BC's My wife brought me back a few bottles of One Barrel from her June trip but they are long gone. Boy, I miss being there. I retire at the end of the year and they'll be seeing a lot more of me. The house is sold, we close on the 20th. We are moving to a smaller place and getting everything in order for our next adventure, Belize. Mike, you are right, you can drink rum with just about anything and I think I have.

One Barrel is great, but I drink a lot of gold Flor De Cana rum. One Barrel is hard to find on the west coast. Amazingly my home in Florida closes on the 20th also. It may not be Belize but it sure is a lot closer I still have a year or so left here...but I'm sure I'll get use out of it..especially in February!

Bob, another coincidence. My official retirement date is March 1st but I have some vacation, comp time, and personal days so I think I can leave for Belize about the Middle of January and I'm hoping that at or just after Christmas I'm done for all practical purposes. I have a lot going on at work and it would be easy to run up some more comp time if I need it. Most of the time I work it and don't put in for it.
WooWhoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! is right

ragman, my date is 3/11. I've been using all my leave, etc for the last two years going to Belize and with trips planned next month and next Jan/Feb I won't have much left. The last few years I have been claiming all those extra hours worked as comp time for my Belize obsession! PS: You are right. One Barrel and ginger ale is damn good, but will be so much better at BC's. See you there I hope. BettyJ, hope to see you very regularly in Paradise!
